  • deciduous shrub 3 - 15 feet high, usually multi-stemmed
  • leaves - 3/4 to 1 3/4 inches long, oblong to oblong-ellipitic, usually rounded at both ends

Habitats:

  • mesic sites
  • wet mesic sites

Often confused with:

  • Hophornbean
  • Musclewood

Ecological Value:

  • At least 40 bird species and some mammals eat the fruit.
  • Favored foodof the gypsy moth.

  • Service berry is also known as Junebush, Indian Pear, and Lancewood.
  • The plant makes a good ornamental decoration year round.
