On Day 4, all members of your group will reconvene and discuss their findings.
Each of you has a suggestion for the best method of controlling the deer
population at Greene Valley. Now, together, you must decide the best plan
of action for the community as a whole. While you want to maintain your
choice, realize that some compromise from all members will be needed as
well to satisfy the greatest good. Once a community decision has been made,
complete an analysis form for the group as a whole, summarizing the pros
and cons to your final control method.
Step 1: Discuss pros and cons of different population control methods
and choose one that best meets the needs of all members of the community.
- Print a copy of the Day
4 worksheet. Complete the table portion with the method of population
control agreed upon by your entire group.
Step 2: Predict population trends with your chosen method of population
control.
- Show your group's decision to the teacher; he or she will provide you
with a set of statistics reflecting the method your group has chosen.
- Using the initial population numbers from Day 1 and the statistics
just provided, predict the deer population with the control method implemented.
Use the same prediction model and short, medium, and long-term time frames
that you used on Day 1.
- Complete the rest of the Day 4 worksheet with the above information.
